sai cosa non ho capito se il tuo g5 è pcie o agp :-p
se è pcie devi mettere la radeon x86 sul pcie 8x e la scheda video apple firmware sul 16x
se invece hai un agp allora cambia tutto nei parametri del kernel

Si è il pcie, e ho gia la apple sul x16 e la radeon sul x8, non so forse è la 6450 che è piu rognosa di quelle che hai te... sta di fatto che in tutti i miei numerosi test il massimo che ho ottenuto è farla andare col framebuffer

Ora faccio altri test con altre iso...

Un pò di versioni "daily"

ubuntu-server = x.509 certificate....
ubuntu-desktop = x-509 certificate....
debian-testing = yaboot buggato (bisogna inserire il percorso a mano...) e arrivati all'installazione non va piu la tastiera!

Io proprio non riesco a capire, ma dove le testano queste distro ppc? Ripeto, è un bene che ci programmino ancora e ci sta che ci siano dei bug e delle cose da perfezionare.... ma qua la questione è che non va nulla! A che serve continuare a fare versioni su versioni quando non ce n'è una che va? E dire che il mac ha un hardware piuttosto consolidato! :triste:

Possibile che tra le mille e mille versioni solo la debian 7.9 va? E le altre chi le usa? Cosa le hanno create a fare?

lascia perdere le 16.04 non funzionano sui G5 ... già riportato e stra riportato sul bugtracker

concentrati su lubuntu 14.04.3 che è lunica a funzionare almeno sulle mie schede video ... strano che non vada con la 6450...

Immagino che lubuntu e mate v14 siano la stessa cosa (se va uno deve andare anche l'altro). E gli aggiornamenti? Creano dei problemi?

Ora mi sto divertendo con freebsd, vediamo se ottengo qualcosa di buono ;-)

no ... lubuntu su ppc è 14.0.4.3 ... mate e' fermo alla 14.0.4.1

e quelle due revisioni fanno un abisso di differenza

Appero! Adesso mi viene un dubbio... che versione di lubuntu ho scaricato io? Il nome della iso è "Lubuntu 14.04 LTS Trusty Tahr" poi però durante l'installazione ho scaricato gli ultimi aggiornamenti. Ho sbagliato qualche cosa?

Edit: ho provato a fare una ricerca ma la iso per ppc della 14.04.3 non l'ho trovata, arriva solo fino alla 14.04.2

Altra delusione con freebsd... Purtroppo non ci sono repo per ppc e andando a compilare i sorgenti ci si imbatte sempre in qualche "pezzo" mancante. :-(

Ma buone notizie lato debian! Ho fatto un'installazione minimale della 8, poi ho aggiornato il kernel alla 4.5 ed infine ho installato xorg/mate/lightdm. Ha funzionato al primo colpo con la nvidia!!!! Ora faccio qualche esperimento sulla radeon, ma se va la nvidia gia basta ed avanza ;-)

Ok confermato che nouveau col kernel 4.5 funziona! L'unico problema rimasto è mesa che naturalmente non va...

Riguardo alla Radeon purtroppo non sono stato in grado nemmeno di far accendere lo schermo... tutti i parametri sembrano inutili, disattivo la nvidia ma la radeon non si attiva! Nonostante xorg la riconosca correttamente (infatti da log mi carica entrambi i moduli nouveau e radeon).

Da log del kernel la radeon da un errore relativo al caricamento del firmware CAICOS (la gpu della 6450), mi manca qualche pacchetto oppure è un bug del kernel?

sudo apt-get install firmware-linux-nonfree (per i firmware radeon)
oppure

sudo apt-get install linux-firmware-nonfree (per i firmware radeon)
ma se sei su debian devi aggiornare i con i backports di debian /etc/apt/source.list

Yeah!!!! Adesso si ragiona! Ho disinstallato libgl1-mesa-glx in favore di libgl1-mesa-swx11 ed adesso ho l'accelerazione 3d!!! 450fps con glxgears!

Per la radeon hai proprio ragione ed infatti è quello che ho fatto! Ora mi inizializza entrambe le schede ma non so come abilitare il multimonitor... Adesso provo a disabilitare la nvidia ed a usare solo la radeon ;-)

No con la Radeon è andata male. Parte in modo testuale ma poi X muore... Guardando il log pare che usa fpdev e dopo AIGLX/GLX va in "segmentation fault" non si può aver tutto dalla vita...
