The AmigaOne clearly has faster main CPU. Even with our goal of designing the N68070, we will catch up somewhat but not be able to beat the G4-PowerPC.
Ma allora meglio SAM-2 coi derivati dei G4...!!!
Would games like Half-Life or Quake be possible on Natami?
The Natami is powerful enough to run games like Half-Life 1, Robin Hood, Age of Empires, and Quake 1,2,3.
The Natami is not powerful enough for games like Quake 4.
Quindi? UAE continua ad evolversi e a "guadagnare Mhz"...
Ma invece di correre questi rischi:
We will do with SuperAGA, what we believe will be best for the future of Amiga and the community.
It depends not only on us but of other companies as well. Our goals are that these companies will produce Amiga in masses again.
While we in general like the idea of open sourcing the design, it might be easier finding someone for this without open sourcing the design.
Whatever happens our goal is that Amiga compatible systems will get produced in masses, if this requires to sell the design to company XYZ then we will do this.
How much can be gained by transferring the FPGA to a custom fixed function chip ?
Oversimplified answer:
A - Medium price FPGA ~ 200 MHz
B - Very expensive FPGA ~ 500 MHz
C - Custom Chip based on little reworked FPGA code ~ 500 MHz
D - Custom Chip complete redesigned 500 MHz - Several GHz
Creeating custom chip does cost a lot of money.
Option C costs some money but less than a million.
Option D is too expensive for the Amiga market.
Try to remember how Amiga OS did run on your Amiga 4000/40.
The SuperAGA chipset will be 100 times faster than AmigaAGA.
The CPU options that we are looking forward to use, will be about 10-20 times faster than the 68040 in the Amiga 4000.
Its clear that the system will be able to run AmigaOS very swiftly.
Our goal for the system is to have enough power to play games and do divX playback.
